Overview

Astragalus root (Huangqi) comes from a perennial legume of the Astragalus genus and is among the best-documented botanicals in traditional Chinese medicine, first recorded more than two thousand years ago. The dried root contains three main families of constituents: polysaccharides, triterpenoid saponins known as astragalosides, and flavonoids such as formononetin and calycosin. Astragaloside IV serves as the quality-control marker in pharmacopoeial monographs. This description is informational only and does not imply any health effect.
