Overview

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide formed by an atypical γ-peptide bond between the side chain of glutamate and cysteine, followed by a standard bond to glycine. The free thiol group on the cysteine residue makes it the central redox buffer of the cell. It also acts as a cofactor for glutathione S-transferases in conjugation reactions and takes part in reversible protein S-glutathionylation. This product contains the reduced form; the oxidised form (GSSG) is a different compound. This description is informational only and does not imply any health effect.
