What is Epithalon

Epithalon is a synthetic analogue of the natural pineal peptide epithalamin. It is composed of four amino acids – alanine, glutamic acid, asparagine and glycine – and is among the research peptides studied in relation to the regulation of telomerase and the potential modulation of the aging process.

Effects investigated

• Telomerase and telomeres: Activation of telomerase and slowing of telomere shortening in cell cultures.
• Neuroprotection: Protection of neurons from oxidative stress and improvement of cognitive parameters in animals.
• Sleep rhythm and melatonin: Epithalon has an effect on circadian rhythm and melatonin levels.
• Immune balance: Potential immunomodulatory effects with long-term administration in experiments.
• Cellular renewal: Support of cell renewal and reduction of apoptosis frequency in some studies.

How Epithalon works

The mechanism of action of Epithalon is being investigated in the context of its effect on the activation of the enzyme telomerase – an enzyme that lengthens telomeres, the protective ends of chromosomes. Telomere shortening is associated with aging and cellular apoptosis. In addition, its neuroprotective, antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties are also being investigated.

Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide that was developed based on the natural peptide epithalamine produced by the pineal gland. In scientific experiments, it is mainly studied for its effects on cell cycle regulation, telomerase activation and potential cell lifespan extension.
