Research Compound

Glutathione 200 mg/ml

Research-grade liquid glutathione solution supplied in a sterile 20 ml glass vial. Glutathione (GSH) is the principal low-molecular-weight intracellular thiol — a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine whose free thiol group makes it the central redox buffer of the cell. It is studied in controlled laboratory settings for cellular redox homeostasis, phase II detoxification pathways, enzymatic antioxidant systems and mitochondrial bioenergetics.

Research Overview

Glutathione is a tripeptide formed by an atypical γ-peptide bond between the side chain of glutamate and cysteine, followed by a standard bond to glycine. The reactive thiol on the cysteine residue is oxidised to a disulfide when glutathione donates electrons to reactive oxygen species, a reaction catalysed by glutathione peroxidase; the oxidised form is then recycled by glutathione reductase using NADPH. The resulting ratio between the reduced and oxidised forms is widely used in research as a measure of cellular redox state. Glutathione also acts as a cofactor for glutathione S-transferases in the conjugation of electrophilic compounds, and participates in reversible protein S-glutathionylation as part of redox signalling. No therapeutic or clinical claims are made or implied.

Primary Research Areas

Oxidative Stress & Redox Balance
Used in cell-based assays where the ratio of reduced to oxidised glutathione serves as an indicator of redox state under experimentally induced oxidative challenge.
Detoxification & Conjugation Pathways
Studied as the endogenous nucleophile in glutathione S-transferase-mediated conjugation reactions in phase II metabolism research.
Enzyme Kinetics Assays
Applied as substrate or product in in-vitro assays measuring glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase activity.
Redox Signalling & S-Glutathionylation
Investigated for its role in reversible modification of protein cysteine residues as a mechanism of cellular signal transduction.
Mitochondrial Redox Biology
Used in models examining separate cytosolic and mitochondrial glutathione pools and their relationship to cellular bioenergetics.

Recommended solvent — Bacteriostatic water

Bacteriostatic water 10mg Peptide Revolution

For diluting lyophilized peptide powders, use a sterile and suitable research solvent such as bacteriostatic water (BAC), which may help support handling stability and reduce contamination risk.
